Recently, several popular columnists have said what I have been screaming for years: Get YOUR children out of the public schools! Not that either of these men are theological heros, but both James Dobson and Matt Walsh have recently made strong statements regarding parents who have chosen to place their kids in public schools. There are several good, practical reasons to avoid public schools as well as some clear Biblical directives.
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
When you send your child to the public school, what are you telling them? “Go to school, be good, listen to the teachers.” You, the parent, are endorsing every thing the teachers say. When the teacher teaches your kindergartner that it is normal for Suzie to have two mommies, or that it is okay for johnny to be gender-fluid, YOU are endorsing that teaching. When the first grader is taught that he evolved from apes over millions of years, you’re telling your kids to believe that. When your high-schooler comes home feeling guilty and nearly suicidal because he has been taught that he has “white-privilege,” it is YOUR FAULT! YOU, the parent, are the one who taught your children to listen to the teachers. When your child, who has grown up in a public school, rejects everything you stand for and turns away from God, you will be forced to ask yourself, “What role did the public school have, and am I responsible for sending my child into that?”
Many people do not understand the depth of perversion to which they are subjecting their children. Everything I mentioned in the paragraph above is true, and happens every day. Common Core Curriculum, which is taught in all of the nation’s schools, includes certain things. Yes, we have all heard of the abysmal failure of the Common Core Curriculum in areas such as math. If you are a student of history, you know history is being re-written to put Christian Americans in a poor light. What you may not realize is that there is a direct assault on the family. The Common Core Curriculum includes teachings which are openly hostile to the Word of God. Children as young as five-years old are being introduced to homosexuality and transgenderism and being taught that these are normal and healthy behaviors.
In addition to the assault on the family, the schools are also waging a direct assault on the very foundation of the Word of God. By teaching the theory of evolution as though it were a proven fact, and by teaching that the creation is billions of years old, the school’s are directly teaching that the Bible is false. If a student dares object, the student is mocked and vilified by fellow students and his teachers. I personally know students who were mocked because of their religious (Christian) preferences.
When Christianity is mentioned in history, it is falsely blamed for actions such as the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition 1. The Christian heritage of the United States is quickly being erased from history.
Of course, other religions are mentioned. While students cannot learn the Ten Commandments, they are taught the Pillars of Islam. While Christians are mocked and prayer to Jesus is forbidden, students are taught to respect Islam and accommodations for Muslims to pray are made in schools across the country.
So, you have to ask yourself, “what am I endorsing when I send my children to school?”
Psalms 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.
Public schools are clearly a place where God is not welcome. In fact, the leaders of the public schools, in most cases, outright deny God. After all, how could one teach “millions of years ago” and believe the Word of God? It is impossible. No matter how hard you may try to convince yourself that you are a Christian, I simply do not believe one can be saved and deny the Word of God. If you teach (or endorse) evolution, you are flatly denying the Word of God and showing that you have no fear of God. The grace of God is absolute, but so is the judgement of God and so is the Word of God.
Psalm 111:10, and others, teach that the fear of the Lord is the very beginning of wisdom. Fools deny God, and you are sending your impressionable child to the company of fools for his education. What do you expect your child to come away with?
Then, we must consider the safety of children. Who is responsible for keeping your children safe? Simply, you are. This past week, we all watched in horror as the news of another school shooting came in. Only two children were injured, and the children were not the target in this particular shooting. In this most recent shooting, the shooter walked up to the school, asked permission to enter, was granted permission and then opened fire. Who was protecting those children? Then, once word of the shooting got out, parents were not allowed access to their children. We must understand that schools represent a rich and soft target for terrorists. True, this last shooting was not an act of terror, but it clearly illustrates the ease in which a school can be attacked. After the attack, one student conveyed her story of how, when the shooting started, the teachers forced the kids to all form up in neat little lines. Who was protecting the children? Who let the shooter in? The fact is: this is another case of how schools simply do not have the logistics to protect the children. Schools are gun-free zones. Most states prohibit anyone from carrying a weapon onto school grounds. Some schools are even so insane as to punish kids who make toy guns out of sticks or whatever. This philosophy makes the schools absolutely defenseless.
Shootings are not the only source of danger in schools. Increasingly, we are seeing evidence of rampant bullying in schools. Yes, bullies have always been around. We have all dealt with them. Today, however, it is far worse. As children are increasingly haveing an online presence (an online presence is mandated by many public schools), the bullying of a perceived weak or different child can extend beyond the school to the safety of the child’s home. Often, through the seemingly anonymity of the internet. Today, as a result of the rampant mental abuse, we are seeing a dramatic increase in suicide rates among kids. Whose fault is that? If you send your kids to the public schools, YOU are. It is the parent’s responsibility to train and protect their children.
Some claim that it is impossible to train their children at home (as God intended) because of financial reasons. In fact, it is not financial restrictions, in many cases, it is a lifestyle choice. Parents choose expensive homes, multiple cars, boats, RVs, etc. over their children. When you’re paying for a $300,000 home, three or four cars, a boat, four-wheelers, an RV and who knows what else, you need two or three incomes to sustain the lifestyle. All the while, sacrificing your children. Whose choice was that? God never intended the home to have two breadwinners.
Titus 2:3-5 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
It is not a popular concept, but it is true: Godly ladies will be keepers of the home. The wife is the queen of the house! She owns a place of high esteem, if she elects to take it on.
Ultimately, parents are charged with raising the children. No one else. Raising children doesn’t take a village, it takes a mother and a father. The parents are responsible for raising their children. Not the state and certainly not the school. When parents subject their children to the ire and the dangers of the public schools, the parents will be responsible for the outcome.
1 In reality, the Crusades and Inquisitions were actions of the Catholic Church, not Christians. Christians were often persecuted along with the pagans by the Catholic Church
This is the message which was preached the morning I was saved.
